Lend Me a Hand

We may find that doing specific tasks with one hand may be a very challenging experience. Many times individuals enjoy completing tasks on their own and feel they don’t need assistance.  There could be situations where someone may legitimately need assistance but do not know how to communicate and ask someone for it.  In this activity, family members practice teamwork and try to complete a task, each person with hand placed behind their back. They must communicate effectively and work together to complete the task.

Begin by choosing the appropriate grade level for the child or children in your family:

Tasks to Complete

  • Tie a shoe
  • Put on a wrist watch
  • Put on a band-aid

Activity

  1. Each participant must place one hand behind their back.
  2. Attempt to complete each task above with the help of a partner. If you’re attempting these tasks alone, think about how you might communicate with someone to complete the task. What would you say to them?
  3. Communicate with your partner and coordinate your actions.
  4. Optional: Upload a photo or video of you and your family members completing the tasks.
