Family Scavenger Hunt

One indoor activity that will always keep you and your family engaged is a classic scavenger hunt. Participants in a scavenger hunt search and collect a number of items. When setting up a scavenger hunt your THEME is everything. Common themes include collecting Easter eggs, being a detective, pirates looking for treasure, or searching for mysterious clues. This scavenger hunt allows you to use mobile device when finding the items.

Begin by choosing the appropriate grade level for the child or children in your family:

What You Will Need

  • Pen or pencil
  • Paper
  • Household items
  • Mobile device (optional)

Activity

  1. Parents or guardians, create a list of items for others to locate around the house. These items can include, specific toys, video game controllers, brightly colored accessories or anything creative to make the activity interesting.
  2. Hide each item throughout the house. Try not to make locations too difficult to find, and always place items in a safe space. Avoid placing items where you must climb or in hard-to-reach areas.
  3. Once someone finds an item, they must take a picture to prove they found the item in the correct location. Taking the photo keeps other participants from being untrue about where they found the item.
  4. This activity can be played in teams or alone.
  5. The first person to finish their entire list w/proof of picture location wins the activity!
