Make a Family Photo Journal

Creating a family journal is a great way to connect with the entire family while you look back on what you enjoyed in the past two years. Many people’s idea of a journal is something that is written and is to be kept extremely private. Journaling in all forms can be used to give clarity on what is important and can help create positive change in a person’s life. This activity allows you to use images as a journal to capture your moments with your family to look back on later.

Begin by choosing the appropriate grade level for the child or children in your family:

What You Will Need

  • Mobile device or camera
  • Precious family moments

Activity

  1. Plan and create experiences together that you and your family will want to remember. These might include cooking together, playing with water balloons in the backyard, or assembling a piece of furniture (but not the one with the crazy instructions). If you need more ideas, check out our Activities page.
  2. Use your mobile device or camera to capture these experiences. Include pictures of your family making different faces, like Mom and her sons making cranky, goofy, or silly faces.
  3. At the end of each day (or week), review your photos of the time you spent together. Put these together as part of your family journal.

Talk About It

Here are some things your family can talk about as you create a family photo journal:

  • What activities do you and your family enjoy doing together most?
  • Which moments did you capture that would make you smile or laugh two years from now?
